After experiencing Lakme Fashion Week Winter festive 2014, this made me reminisce. Growing up in India for six years and seeing my motherland now has dramatically changed. The people, architecture, politics, entertainment, government and even their fashion industry; all of it has changed.
Seeing fashion from my time until now, makes me wish I have the old school India back sometimes. I have noticed that a lot of their fashion sense tends to come from us in some ways. That’s probably why you hear “India is becoming the next America” from how “Westernized” it has become.
After seeing the Lakme Fashion Week 14 Winter Festive, India is slowly starting to become a new era of fashion in my opinion. Only recently did they start to make more and more designs that are inspired but still have a traditional Indian touch to it.
I noticed a lot of collections that had a blend of different cultures all rolled into one. The music was my favorite part of the show. It blended really well with each collections that walked down the runway in a way there was a story behind each one. I adore the Chromat inspired grunge look from Surbhi Shekhar.
It’s really awesome I should say that we are seeing American designer inspired pieces being incorporated onto Indian fashion. I loved the Gold, Black and Red color scheme. It was a perfect color combination for the Fall/Winter.
Day two of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 was way more traditional for both guys and girls. Jacqueline Fernandez, who is a famous Bollywood actress and model, walked the ramp for Anju Modi’s Bridal collection. She look absolutely gorgeous in the lehenga she was wearing.
I also loved how Anju was able to take the modern suiting jacket for men’s and make it to an groom’s wear piece. Usually with grooms on the weddings they wear a long Sherwani that comes below their knees with skinny pants. All in all, it was an amazing show and all the designers did an exceptional job of showcasing.
Until Next Time-
